Born in 1969 in West Bengal, Bratin Khan is a graduate of the prestigious Visva Bharati University, Santiniketan (1988-1993). He is an eminent Indian artist who is greatly influenced by the Bengal school of art and Rajasthani miniature paintings, evident in his brushstrokes and the way he handles colour.

Bratin Khan’s subjects are mostly drawn from Indian mythology, religion and folk lore. Using tempera as a medium, he paints in a distinct and unique style that he has mastered over the years. Bratin Khan’s figures are graceful and free-flowing, and a light or glow emerges from their faces. His paintings exude a light that emerges from within. His figures are languid and flow gracefully with the overall schema of the natural world that they inhibit. Nature plays an important role in all his paintings, that are distinctly Indian, reminiscent of his childhood in rural Bengal.

Bratin Khan’s paintings are part of many important private and corporate collections in India and around the world, including those of Mr. Adani, Mr. B.K. Birla, the RPG Group and Sony Electronics, Japan. The artist has held solo and group shows at the Academy of Fine Arts, Kolkata, Dhoomimal Art Centre, New Delhi, Emami Chisel Art, Kolkata, amongst others. Bratin Khan is the winner of the 1992 ‘best painting award’ from the Indian Society of Oriental Art and Culture.
