Ganesh Chaturthi Special 11 Stunning Ganesha Paintings & Drawings

Ganesh or Vinayaka Chaturthi is dedicated to Lord Ganesh (son of Shiva), the elephant-headed god of all good beginnings and success. MF Husain's love for Hindu mythology was well depicted in all his paintings.  And like many others this one of Lord Ganesha and Mata Pravati turned out to be controversial and he faced severe criticism for the same. The painting is about Lord Ganesh in the lap of his mother, which to some looked like a 'semi-nude woman'. The painting had to be removed from an exhibition held at JW Marriot hotel in Mumbai after a letter by a guest at the exhibition was submitted raising an objection. The exhibitors - Delhi Art Gallery feared violence erupting and the painting being damaged hence thought it is best to remove it from the exhibition. But as an art lover, you cannot but help fall in love with this masterpiece of MF Husain.

Artist: Inithan Ponuswamy


Capturing the magnificence of Lord Ganesh, Inithan Ponuswamy's painting titled Ganesha is a visual treat to the eyes. Set amidst a marvelous backdrop of a mix of dark shades, the rust golden painting of Lord Ganesh stands out giving it almost a surreal look. It took the artist a good two months to complete this oil painting and the effort is well seen in the work.

Art is most certainly meant to amuse and this amazing painting by artist Tilly Strauss is different and extremely amusing. The girl in the picture has a nest in her bun with eggs laid in it and then there is a tattoo of Lord Ganesh peeping out from her back. It is as if the artist is wanting to convey that with Lord Ganesh to watch over, nothing is impossible.

The vibrancy surrounding Lord Ganesh is wonderfully captured by artist Vikrant Shitole in this fantastic water colour painting of the Lord. The painting also has a snake sitting with Ganesh who is holding a modak in one hand and the other hand is shown to be blessing the onlooker.
