Description
A solitary, mask-like visage rises from a storm of black gestures and ashen washes, its features fractured into planes as if memory has been forced through a lattice of constraints. The monochrome palette turns light into abrasion rather than illumination, where scraped whites and dense charcoals wrestle for dominance and leave the figure suspended between emergence and erasure. Crossed, angular lines read like both scaffolding and cage, suggesting an inner architecture of pressure—identity held together by tension, and threatened by it. The work’s raw mark-making makes the portrait feel less like depiction than an excavation, exposing a psyche under construction.
