Description
Set against a rigid checkerboard that reads like a social grid or institutional wall, the central figure is carved in stark, tactile marks—its eyes and mouth sealed into a quiet endurance, as if identity has been etched under pressure rather than freely drawn. A blue ring at the throat becomes both halo and gag, concentrating attention on the politics of voice: what is spoken, what is permitted, and what is swallowed back. To the left, the simplified mask-like face floats within concentric blue fields, an echo or alter-self that suggests the psyche’s retreat into symbolic language when direct speech becomes dangerous. The tension between the work’s blunt geometry and its wounded, hand-scored surfaces turns the scene into a meditation on surveillance, fragmentation, and the fragile insistence of presence.
